Ziad Khayat is a First Economic Affairs Officer at the Water Resources Section of the Sustainable Development Policies Division at the Economic and Social Commission for Wester Asia (ESCWA). Mr. Khayat joined ESCWA in 2015 focusing on water related sustainable development issues within the context of a water-energy-food security paradigm and on shared water resources opportunities and challenges in the Arab region with the aim of supporting countries move towards water security. Mr. Khayat also focuses Prior to joining ESCWA he worked with UNDP in Lebanon on a national groundwater assessment and demand side management and with Dar Al-Handasah Consultants on various hydrogeological assessments and groundwater management issues in the Arab region. He has also taught Hydrogeology graduate courses at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He holds degrees from the University of British Columbia in Canada and from the American University of Beirut where he specialized in hydrogeology.
