Dr. Shamma Al Malek is the Director of Strategy, Performance and Quality in the strategic affairs of the Department of Energy (DoE).
Dr. Shamma started her career with the National Energy & Water Research Center (NEWRC) and has more than 12 years of experience in the energy sector where she has successfully initiated and managed a number of pioneering projects for the sector related to desalination (RO pilot plants), utilization of treated water, regulation for drinking and non-drinking water by tankers and management of the Excellence Award for the sector.
In addition to the above role, Dr. Shamma has actively participated in a number of committees internally and in collaboration with strategic stakeholders, to address various critical issues related to the sector performance including Sector Restructuring, Digital Transformation, Human Resources, Recruitment Interviews, Research on sector performance, and the utilization of treated water.
Dr. Shamma was educated in the U.K where she received her PhD in “Membrane Fabrication & Characterization “following the successful completion of her Master and Bachelor degrees in Chemical Engineering. She has published more than 15 academic papers in international journals and her strong academic background combined with her extensive industrial experience, qualified her to contribute effectively in many local and international conferences.
Dr. Shamma is well recognized for her best performance and achievements on many occasions including Outstanding Performance, Best Female Emirati employee in DoE and for her valuable contribution towards the development of Water Strategy 2036 by the Ministry of Energy.
