Samantha Yates is the Secretary General of the Global Water Leaders Group, a non-profit organisation which aims to create a better story for water. Samantha was appointed to this role at the inception of the Global Water Leaders Group in January 2013. In this role, she spearheads initiatives for, and research about, water utility performance and innovation amongst the Group’s network of utility CEOs and Water Ministers from around one hundred countries. She is also the Editor of Water Leader publication series, including the white paper series and monthly contributions to the Group’s sister organisation magazine called Global Water Intelligence. In this, she reports on various aspects of the value of urban water and wastewater services and the latest utility performance turnarounds. Previously, Samantha worked in various research and consultancy roles, including water treatment technology markets for unconventional oil and gas, flood pump markets in China, and more. Samantha is a regular speaker at international conferences and has received many awards and accolades for her contribution to the water sector. Samantha is a lifetime member of the Golden Key International Honours Society, the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honour Society for Business Excellence, received two World Water Leadership Awards, and has a global listing for being in the top 50 most impactful leaders in water and water management. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) and Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, and a Master of Science in Water Science, Policy and Management from the University of Oxford.
